André Príncipe studied Psychology at Porto University
and Film at ESTC in Lisbon. He has lived in Amsterdam,
New York and London and is currently based in Lisbon.
In his trilogy of Absence; Tunnels, Walls and Bridges,
the artist looks at loneliness and the difficulty of
communication while also reflecting on the limits of
photography itself. The three books are edited like
novels dealing with abstract, non-pictorial themes
that are usually associated with other genres such as
literature or film. Tunnels is out on Booth-Clibborn
editions with Walls to follow later this year. Andre
Principe has exhibited in Centro Português de
Fotografia and museums in Vienna, Rio de Janeiro,
Madrid, etc. He has been published in magazines such
as Exit. He is co-fonder of Pierre von Kleist
editions, a photo book publishing company. He has won
different awards and grants and was twice short listed
for the Deutsche Borse Photography prize. Andre works
with film and video as well as photography.
