STOP MOVING

A Photographic Road Show from November 21st to November 23rd November2006

‘13 photographers, over 3 days, in 3 different sites, in a 40 tonne truck. 'Stop Moving' is the latest venture by photodebut, the on the go London-based photographers' collective responsible for some of the most thought-provoking group shows of the past few years. The list of participants is impressive: Esther Teichmann, Richard Mosse, Emer O'Brien, Patricia Niven, Aaron Schumann, Ralf Obergfell, Afshin Dehkordi, Jan Von Holleben, Jan Ebelling, Ben Roberts, Tom Brown, Alys Tomlinson, and Stephen Ledger-Lomas. The Truck comes to a halt in Hoxton Square, Elephant and Castle and Brick Lane.

Just when you thought you'd viewed art in every possible space, along comes photography collective Photodebut. Not content with the praise and support of its photographic peers, the group is literally taking its show on the road — with a three-night exhibition on display in a 40-tonne truck. The show's images include Aaron Schuman 's Martin Parr -esque snapshots of everyday banality and Jan von Holleben 's witty creations — his "Dreams of Flying" series features subjects lying on the ground who appear to soar through the air. Climb aboard at Hoxton Square, LCC Elephant & Castle or Sclater Street, Brick Lane. (LCD)

London is a city of perpetual motion. The 'Stop Moving' show invites the viewer to focus on moments of transitory reflection and stillness and celebrate photography's ability to freeze any action, event or process. The show will take the form of duratrans on lightboxes and will be curated by the group itself.

PETITES MORTS

A photographic exhibition showing from January 25th to March 31st 2006

‘In French, there is a phrase – petit mort, or ‘little death’ – that alludes to the orgasm. For me, photographing is like this.I am a pack of nerves while waiting for the moment, and this feeling grows and grows and grows and then it explodes, it is a physical joy,a dance, space and time reunited. Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Like the end of Joyce's Ulysses. To see is everything.’Henri Cartier-Bresson

In collaboration with the corbettPROJECTS and sponsored by Dazed&Confused and Grolsch, photodebut will be displaying the work of emerging photographers at the Glass House Gallery, 2-3 Bull’s Head Passage, Leadenhall Market, and EC3. The exhibition will be on display until March 31st and a selection of the work will also be featured with the Cynthia Corbett Gallery at the London Art Fair 06 and The Affordable Art Fair 06. IT WENT DARK AND I SAW

November 2004 at the London College of Printing (London Institute)

‘It went dark and I saw’ is a new photographic exhibition of critically engaging work that confronts the concept of darkness. As a medium based on the accurate recording of light reflected into a lens, photography in the absence of light is often enticingly ambiguous. In this collection, darkness elicits an exciting range of responses, as a translation of the unknown, from dark voyeuristic studies to images depicting light childhood fantasy and play.

TANNERY ARTS

August 2004 Workshop: A photodebut collaboration with Tannery Arts.

The east end artist studio space and gallery, The Drawing Rooms, opens it's creative doors to the public once a month with collaborative workshops for the neighbourhood children and resident artists. Photodebut were invited to host one such workshop this August, and so after brainstorming about what photographic activity would be exciting and appealing to all age groups, we decided to install a mini darkroom for the day and have the participants create their own beautiful photograms. The children (ranging from four to twelve years old) and artists alike excitedly gathered and chose objects both natural from the canal banks and other pieces found in their studios, and entered into the darkroom to let the magic begin. Once the delicate images which they watched appear in the developing tray had dried, the group took their prints outside and used inks, paints and brushes to tonally shade areas. The enthusiasm and dedication especially from the children made that wonderful sunny day an unforgettable experience.

DAY 4 MAGAZINE

Where, or what, is 'home'? Is it where you were born? Where you were raised? Is it where your parents are, somewhere you visit for Christmas/Thanksgiving/Mother's Day? Or is it simply where you go to at night, a place to lay your head? Is 'Home' something you make or something you try to escape? Photodebut was commissioned by DAY4 Magazine to search collectively for a visual answer to this question. The reply: a vivid collection of diverse interpretations ranging from abstract to literal photographic discussions of the topic.

LAUNCH PARTY/EXIHIBTION

June 2004 at the Four Corners Gallery in Bethnal Green.

The images exhibited were loosely based upon the theme of 'Home', coinciding with our first group commission appearing in the 'Home' issue of Day4, a new fine art photography journal, which is coming out at the end of this month accompanied by a launch party at ‘Home’-Bar on Leonard Street/ Shoreditch. With over three hundred people, the show was a success and not only underlined the strength of the group, but also brought us together in a new way. The collaboration with The Four Corners Gallery was exciting for both sides and we look forward to working together again.
